Samantha Fordyce, retail managing officer at MidWestOne Bank, began her 15-year career at the bank as a teller. She is passionate about community banking, emphasizing that it’s about people and community, not just numbers.

Active in her community, Fordyce serves on multiple non-profit boards and volunteers at local events. She values the opportunity to be a trusted advisor to her customers, helping them achieve their financial goals. Outside of work, Fordyce enjoys spending time with her husband and 1-year-old son.

What is your job title/position at your bank?

Retail Managing Officer.

Where did you attend college/what degree(s) have you obtained?

University of Iowa, French Major with an International Business Certificate.

When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?

I’ve worked at MidWestOne Bank for 15 years. I started here as a teller when I graduated college and now I manage our North Liberty branch. I’ve learned so much during my time at MidWestOne Bank, and it’s been so rewarding to spend my entire professional career with the same company.

What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?

Community banking isn’t only about numbers, it’s about people and community. One of the best parts of my job is getting to be involved in the community. I serve on multiple non-profit boards and volunteer at many community events.

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

Banking gives you the opportunity to work with customers during every stage of their life. Being their trusted advisor and seeing them achieve their goals is so rewarding.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

IBA provides so many learning and networking opportunities. I had the privilege of attending the IBA leadership program last year, where I learned so much and made life long connections with my classmates.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

Spending time with my family. My husband and I are lucky that many of our close family members live in Iowa. We spend many of our weekends traveling to visit them with our 1-year-old, Luca.
