IBA Member Spotlight: Morgan Weber

Hard Work ‘Pays Off’ for F&M Bank’s Weber

Weber, MorganMorgan Weber is proof that hard work can lead to success. She has worked on the lending side of banking for 17 years, nearly eight of which have been with F&M Bank in Manchester. She started as a lending assistant and transitioned through several roles before landing in her current role as mortgage loan officer. She was also recently promoted to assistant vice president. “I am most proud of learning the basics — starting at the bottom and working my way to the top,” she said. “It shows that hard work does payoff.”

For others considering a career in banking, Weber says it’s important to be empathetic so you can understand your customers’ financial needs. “Love what you do, put yourself in the client’s shoes and treat them like your family,” she advises. “Listen with your ears and not with your mouth. And best of all, you will learn something new every day.”

When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?

I am most proud of learning the basics — starting at the bottom and working my way to the top. It shows that hard work does payoff. I have been with F&M Bank for almost eight years within an overall 17 years of experience in the lending environment. I started as a lending assistant, processing consumer and agricultural and commercial loans. Then transitioned into mortgage loan processing, underwriting and now lending. My favorite part of the job is helping clients buy their first, secondary and forever home.

What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?

Love what you do, put yourself in the client’s shoes and treat them like your family. Listen with your ears and not with your mouth. And best of all, you will learn something new every day.

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

Banking consists of a variety of career paths. From IT to customer service to behind the scenes making the show run. No matter what your role is, it is important, and the best part is being a part of a team.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

Networking is such an awesome tool that I enjoy at every event I attend through the IBA. You can find peers that use the same loan processing systems or core systems. You build friendships with people around Iowa and can learn from each other on how to make yourself and your role better at your institution. As well as training opportunities and handouts that put you in the right direction, communication is always easy and consistent.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

I spend a majority of my time with my husband, kids and grandkids. We enjoy ranger rides, relaxing around fires, hanging out with our close friends, cheering on the Hawkeyes and occasional long weekend travels.

What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?

Kill them with kindness. You never know what someone is going through in life. Maybe someone is having a bad day and your smile or kindness can help turn their day around or maybe they just need an ear to listen, so always be kind.
