Yahnke’s Banking Career Grows in Rural Iowa

Dave YahnkeDavid Yahnke, senior vice president and chief credit officer at Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, uses his banking career to build relationships with others and to meet his customers’ needs. He commented, “There is nothing more satisfying than helping someone replace the worry on their face with a smile. A banking career is a great place to have that opportunity.”

In addition to banking, Yahnke has also been able to pursue farming which is one of his biggest passions. “Community banking has allowed my wife and I to remain in rural Iowa while raising two daughters on our family farm. I’ve told a lot of people that I consider myself a full-time farmer and a part-time banker.”

When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?

I am most proud of the relationships that I have been blessed to have with both customers and colleagues in the banking industry. Community banking has allowed my wife and I to remain in rural Iowa while raising two daughters on our family farm.

What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?

Never ask for or give favors, just do your best daily to meet your customers’ needs.

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

There is nothing more satisfying than helping someone replace the worry on their face with a smile. A banking career is a great place to have that opportunity.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

IBA is a tremendous resource for nearly everything a bank or bank employee can need. Whether it is training/educational needs, networking, insurance services, advocacy needs, regulatory compliance assistance or just access to or referral to expert advice, IBA staff are always available to serve the needs of their members.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

I’ve told a lot of people that I consider myself a full-time farmer and a part-time banker. So, most of my free time is spent around the farm, but my wife and I love spending time with our daughters’ families and boating on Rathbun Lake.

What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?

Do today what others won’t, so you can do tomorrow what others can’t.
