Diehm: Banking Provides Endless Opportunity

Austin DiehmAlthough Austin Diehm didn’t originally aspire to be a banker, he quickly discovered it was a rewarding profession. “I enjoy being able to have a part in driving economic success for my community,” he said.

A graduate from Grace University, Diehm currently has the role of market president for TS Bank in Council Bluffs and the Omaha Metro market. “Banking is a career where you can directly impact the lives of others for good, both now and into retirement,” he said. “It is an industry that is always changing, yet is a stable career with endless opportunity.”

What is one lesson working in the banking industry has taught you, and how do you apply it to your everyday life?

The banking industry has taught me the value of being a good steward of your resources financially. It might seem like an obvious lesson, however, a vast majority of Americans are financially illiterate. I have applied these lessons in my life most tangibly by having a comprehensive budget. I have learned that no matter how much money you make, a good budget can help you experience financial freedom.

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

Banking is a career where you can directly impact the lives of others for good, both now and into retirement. It is an industry that is always changing, yet is a stable career with endless opportunity.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

Iowa Bankers has many valuable resources for bankers throughout the state. I have been directly impacted through the various educational opportunities they have offered through the years, on nearly every topic in banking. The network of bankers throughout the state has also helped me to be a better banker myself. Beyond that, there are too many resources to name, from the compliance hotline, to Iowa Bankers insurance, which have all been a real benefit to me throughout my career.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

I enjoy spending time with my wife and four children. We enjoy biking, hiking and anything outdoors. Like most bankers, I am also an avid golfer when the time allows.
