This timely workshop, presented by the attorneys of the Employment & Labor Law Practice of Dickinson Bradshaw, will provide HR professionals with relevant, practical and up-to-date information to help your bank with legal compliance. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions of a team of attorneys with decades of collective legal experience, as well as discuss solutions while networking with your counterparts from across Iowa.
Course Topics:
Legal Update – Open the day learning about the most recent and relevant developments in federal and Iowa employment law, with an emphasis on what applies to banks.
Workshop: The Disabled Worker – Next, dig into a unique case about a disabled worker in a bank setting. (This will not be the same case used in Dickinson Bradshaw’s Employment Law Seminar in May!) You’ll work through the scenarios in small groups with colleagues from similarly-sized banks. That way, only FMLA-covered banks will address FMLA issues. The case study will include hot topics from recent and classic cases, as well as the experiences of the Dickinson Bradshaw attorneys. Issues covered in the case study may include any of the following:
- Mental health conditions and when there is more than one condition at a time
- Absences of varying frequency and duration
- When workers’ compensation may be involved
- Timing and reasons for requests for leave or accommodations that are suspicious
- Leave interactions and taking time off after paid leaves are exhausted
- Attendance tracking and discipline for employees with protected and unprotected absences
- The reasonable accommodations process for work-from-home requests
- Accommodating a “normal” pregnancy
- Doctor’s notes and medical certifications dos and don’ts
Q&A – Pose your burning labor and employment law questions to the Dickinson Bradshaw attorneys in a dedicated Q&A session at the end of the workshop. Responses provided are for learning/educational purposes, only, and are not legal opinions.
